One In Five Of Oconee County’s Voters Have Cast In-Person Or Absentee Ballots For June 9 Primary

***Republican Ballots Make Up Two-Thirds Of Those Cast***

With 10 days of early voting completed for the June 9 primary and judicial elections, just more than 20 percent of Oconee County’s 30,457 registered voters have cast a ballot, either in person or by returning an Absentee ballot.

Republican ballots continue to dominate.

Of the 980 In-Person ballots cast by the end of the day on Saturday, 88.8 percent were in the Republican Primary, and of the 5,188 Absentee ballots returned as of the end of the day on Saturday, 66.2 percent were for the Republican Primary.

Northeast Health District Adds Only Two Confirmed COVID-19 Cases In Sunday Daily Status Report

Clarke and Elbert counties where the only counties in the 10-county Northeast Health District to add a confirmed COVID-19 case in the Daily Status Report on Sunday as the area experienced a lull in the growth of cases.

Even with the addition of just the two cases, the seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped only from 38.4 on Saturday to 36.6 on Sunday because Sundays traditionally have been days on which few cases are added in the District.

Extra Special People Releases In Virtual Meeting New Plans For Miracle League Field And Playground At Harris Shoals Park

Extra Special People, in a virtual meeting on Friday, released to the public greatly revised plans for its proposed development of a part of Harris Shoals Park in collaboration with the city of Watkinsville.

Retained in those plans is a Miracle League Field, which is a ball field that can be used by people in wheelchairs, but gone are the originally proposed splash pad, additional park entrance off Experiment Station Road, and increased parking.

Oconee County Added COVID-19 Death In Department of Public Health Saturday Report; Confirmed Cases In Area Continues To Increase

Oconee County recorded its six death attributed to COVID-19 in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report released at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the county and the Northeast Health District continued to add cases in an unmistakable upturn in the disease in the area.

The 10-county Northeast Health District added 35 cases on Saturday, including seven in Clarke County, and the seven-day rolling average of cases increased to 38.4, the highest number ever recorded for the District.

Department Of Public Health Reports Five New Confirmed COVID-19 Cases In Oconee County

***Region Adds 39 New Cases***

Oconee County added five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report released at 1 p.m. on Friday, and the 10-county Northeast Health District, of which Oconee County is a part, added 39 new cases.

Clarke County added nine cases in the Friday Daily Status Report, and every county in the Northeast Health District except Morgan and Greene counties added at last one case.

The Northeast Health District of the Department of Public Health continued a three-day run of adding large numbers of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, with 43 new cases pushing the seven-day average of added cases to 37.0 from 34.4 on Wednesday.

The 10-county district also added another death attributed to the disease, the sixth death in the last three days, and the seven-day average of added deaths stood at 1.7, down from 1.9 on Wednesday.

Oconee County Commissioners Get Look At Pared-Back SPLOST List For November Referendum

***Optimistic Projection Is For Nearly $65 Million In Projects***

Oconee County voters in November will be presented with a $64.6 million wish list of projects to be funded by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax if the Board of Commissioners accepts a staff proposal given it last week.

Included on the list is $14.4 million for roads and bridges, $7.5 million for water and sewer projects, $6.9 million for a library and government administrative building, and $6.3 million for county broadband.
