Clarke County recorded its 44th death from COVID-19 with the release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Saturday, the second death in the county from the disease listed in the Report in as many days.
The Daily Status Report listed two deaths from COVID-19 in Barrow County and one in Jackson County, and the four additional deaths brought the seven-day rolling average of added deaths in the 10-county Northeast Health District up slightly to 1.1 from 1.0 on Friday.
The Northeast Health District now has 250 deaths in the official tally in the Department of Public Health’s Daily Status Report.
The Clarke County death was of a 70-year-old male with a chronic condition.
The Barrow County deaths were of a 49-year-old female and a 61-year-old male, both with chronic conditions.
The Jackson County death was of an 81-year-old male, also with a chronic condition.
Cases, Tests, Hospitalizations
The Daily Status Report on Saturday listed 87 new COVID-19 cases in the Northeast Health District, with all counties in the District adding at least one. Oconee County added four cases and Clarke County added 23.
The seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped from 86.0 on Friday to 83.3 on Saturday.
The Department of Public Health reported on Saturday 54 molecular tests for which it had verdicts in Oconee County, and 1.9 percent of them were positive. The seven-day rolling average of positive tests was 5.7 on Saturday, down from 6.1 on Friday.
The Department of Public Health listed 548 tests in Clarke County in the Saturday Report, with 4.7 percent of them positive. The seven-day rolling average of that statistic was 4.8.
Since Aug. 1, the seven-day rolling average of test positivity has dropped from 13.8 percent to the 5.7 percent figure in Oconee County (Chart 3 below, insert). In Clarke County, the average percent positivity was 8.7 on Aug. 1, increased to 17.7 on Sept. 7, and fell back to the 4.8 figure on Saturday.
The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Saturday that area hospitals had 70 COVID-19 patients, down from 71 on Friday, 56 ICU beds in use out of a capacity of 70, down from 64 on Friday, and 28 adult ventilators in use, up from 26 on Friday.
State Data
Across the state of Georgia, the Department of Public Health reported 44 new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, including the four in the Northeast Health District.
The seven-day rolling average of added deaths dropped from 48.9 on Friday to 46.1 on Saturday.
The Department eliminated four deaths previously included in the official death tally from the disease on Saturday, and added at least 29 deaths in the last 14 days.
The state added 1,381 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases continued to drop, falling from 1,462.6 on Friday to 1,329.4 on Saturday.
The state added 24,861 new molecular tests on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added tests dropped to 19,566.6 on Saturday from 20,791.7 on Friday.
Of the added molecular tests for which a verdict was known, 5.3 percent were positive on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of positivity dropped to 8.1 percent on Saturday from 9.3 percent on Friday.
Across the state, the Georgia Hospital Association and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported 1,303 COVID-19 patients on Saturday, down from 1,360 on Friday, 2,263 ICU beds in use, down from 2,282 on Friday, and 879 adult ventilators in use, down from 912 on Friday.
The Department of Community Health does not issue its Long-Term Care Facility Report on Saturdays or Sundays.

Charts 1 and 2 include data from the 10-county Northeast Health District of the Department of Public Health, which includes Oconee and Clarke counties.
Chart 3 presents data for Oconee and Clarke counties only, with the rolling average for added cases in the main chart and the rolling average for percentage of molecular tests that were positive in the inserted chart.
