In a busy day of qualifying Thursday, a Democrat and a Republican filed to run for Post 2 on the Oconee County Board of Education against incumbent Republican Amy Parrish, who qualified on Tuesday.
Andrea Wellnitz filed for the Democratic primary, and Adam Spence filed for the Republican primary.
Democrat Fran Thompson also filed to run for Post 3 on the Board of Education, now held by Republican Kim Argo, who qualified on Monday.
Marcus Wiedower qualified for the Republican primary on May 22 for House District 119. Steven Strickland qualified as a Republican on Tuesday, and incumbent Democrat Jonathan Wallace qualified on Monday.
Allison Mauldin qualified in the nonpartisan election for Judge of the Superior Court for Oconee and Clarke counties. Incumbent Eric Wayne Norris qualified on Monday.
Qualifying ends at noon today (Friday).
No Contests, Repeat Contest
The filings on Thursday mean that, as of the end of the day on Thursday, only Board of Commissioners incumbent Chuck Horton, a Republican, has no opposition either in the May 22 primary or in the general election in November.

Incumbent Commissioner William “Bubber” Wilkes still had no Democratic opposition, but John Laster filed on Wednesday to challenge Wilkes in the Republican primary.
Wiedower’s qualifying on Thursday means that he and Strickland will compete once again for Republican support in the 119th House District.
Both were defeated, along with Tom Lord, in the special election in November won by Wallace.
The 119th had been held by Republican Chuck Williams, who stepped down to be appointed director of the state Forestry Commission.
Education Candidates
Wellnitz,1651 Rambling Rill Drive, off Barber Creek Road in the far west of the county, lists her occupation as project manager. She turned 48 the day she qualified.

Spence, 36, of 1081 Lois Lane, off Daniells Bridge Road, is a police officer.
Thompson, 1281 Windy Creek Drive, off Mars Hill Road, lists her occupation as school social workers. She is 41.
Wellnitz and Spence will be challenging Parrish, who was appointed to the Board of Education to fill an unexpired term in July of 2016 and has not yet faced voters.
Post 3 Board member Argo was first elected to the Board of Education in 2008.
Superior Court Races
The qualification of Mauldin, chief assistant district attorney in the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit, to run against Norris gives Norris his first electoral test.
Norris, from Oconee County, was appointed to that judgeship in 2016.
Lisa Lott and incumbent Regina Quick have qualified to run in the nonpartisan race for the Superior Court judgeship now held by Quick.
Quick was appointed to that position in August.
The Superior Court nonpartisan races will be held on May 22 in conjunction with the party primaries, with the outcome decided at that time unless there is a need for a runoff.
