The seven-day rolling averages of COVID-19 cases and of deaths increased on Saturday in the 10-county Northeast Health District of the Georgia Department of Public Health with the addition of 190 new confirmed cases and of three deaths attributed to the disease.
The three deaths were of a 52-year male in Jackson County with a chronic condition, a 73-year-old male in Jackson County without a chronic condition, and a 65-year-old female in Madison County without a known chronic condition.
The seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 1.7 on Saturday from 1.3 on Friday.
Deaths in the Northeast Health District began to increase after July 7, and a comparison of the deaths up to that date and following shows that the age of the deceased has dropped dramatically.
Prior to and including July 7, only seven of the 108 deaths (6.5 percent) were of someone less than 60 years old. After July 7, eight of the 38 deaths (21.1 percent) were of persons less than 60 years of age.
Race, gender and whether the person had a chronic condition did not change much after July 7, though the race is known for fewer of the deceased after that date.
Every county in the 10-county Northeast Health District added at least three COVID-19 cases on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 156.4 from 155.0 on Friday.
Oconee County added three cases, and Clarke County added 59.
The Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported that the number of available Critical Care Beds at area hospitals increased from four on Friday to seven on Saturday. Hospitals report their data by the deadline of noon on the day of the report.
The Department of Public Health did not release a Long-Term Care Facility Report on Saturday.
State Data
Across the state, the Department of Public Health recorded 71 deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Saturday, compared with 74 a week earlier, and the seven-day rolling average dropped from 53.0 on Friday to 52.6 on Saturday.
Forty-two of those deaths were in the last 14 days.
The Department of Public Health listed 4,445 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, compared with 3,709 a week ago, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 3,386.4 from 3,281.3 on Friday.
The Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported on Saturday that the state had 2,878 Current Confirmed COVID-19 Hospitalizations, down from 2,981 on Friday. The number of hospitalizations has decreased for five days running.
The number of ventilators in use also decreased, from 1,218 on Friday to 1,211 on Saturday.
