***COVID-19 Patients At Area Hospitals Increase***

The Department of Community Health reported six new COVID-19 deaths in long-term care facilities in the Northeast Health District on Tuesday, the largest number of new deaths listed in a single day in the Department’s Long-Term Care Facility Report since the end of May.

The Department of Public Health added 157 cases of COVID-19 confirmed via molecular tests in its Daily Status Report on Tuesday, the largest number of added cases based on this test since September 16.

Across the state, the Georgia Department of Public Health listed 3,603 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, the highest number reported since Aug. 12.

The Department of Public Health’s Daily Status Report also listed 54 cases based on positive antigen tests and one death in Jackson County from COVID-19.

Three of the deaths listed in the Department of Community Health Report were in Jackson County, one was in Clarke County, and two were in Elbert County. The Department of Public Health distributes the Department of Community Health Report but does not treat its COVID-19 deaths as confirmed.

Cases Added

Every county in the 10-county Northeast Health District added at least one confirmed case based on the molecular tests in Tuesday’s Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average in the District increased to 107.3 from 100.3 on Monday. That is the highest rolling average for the District since Sept. 21.

Oconee County added five confirmed cases based on the molecular test, and Clarke County added 32. The rolling average of added cases remained the same in Oconee County on Tuesday, while it fell slightly in Clarke County.

The 54 positive cases in the Daily Status Report based on the antigen rapid test were many fewer than the 136 cases listed a week ago, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases based on the antigen test dropped to 27.4 on Tuesday from 39.1 on Monday.

The antigen test is considered to be less accurate than the molecular test, and the Department of Public Health only lists as confirmed cases those based on the molecular test. Multiple tests by a single individuals are reported as a single case, the Department of Public Health also reports.

Every county in the Northeast Health District except Walton added antigen positive cases in the Daily Status Report on Tuesday. Oconee and Clarke counties both added eight cases based on this test.

Deaths Listed

The confirmed COVID-19 death listed in the Tuesday Daily Status Report was of a 78-year-old Jackson County male without a known chronic condition.

The death brings to 47 the number of deaths from COVID-19 in Jackson County in the Daily Status Report and to 333 the number of deaths in the Northeast Health District from the disease in the Report.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths listed in the Daily Status Report dropped to 1.1 on Tuesday from 1.3 on Monday.

The Northeast Health District did not add any probable deaths from the disease in the Tuesday Public Health Report.

The Clarke County death listed in the Department of Community Health Report was at Avery Place personal care home in Winterville and was the first death from the disease reported at that facility.

The two Elbert County deaths were at Magnolia Estates personal care home in Elberton, which also reported two deaths from the disease at the facility on Monday.

The remaining three deaths listed in the Long-Term Care Facility Report in facilities in the Northeast Health District were at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Commerce in Jackson County and were the first deaths at that facility.

The Long-Term Care Facility Report also listed 12 new COVID-19 Positive Residents and four new COVID-19 Positive Staff at area long-term care facilities.

The remaining two Positive Residents were at The Retreat at Loganville personal care home in Walton County, which also had one additional Positive Staff.
