Northeast Health District Continues To Experience Upswing In COVID Cases

***Cases Down In Oconee, Up In Clarke***

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported that the Northeast Health District added 481 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on Jan. 17, based on the Department’s electronic tracking system.

The Department of Public Health reported the Northeast Health District had added 403 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on Jan. 10 and 278 cases in the week ending on Jan. 3.

The Department of Public Health reported two new confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District in its report on Wednesday.

One of those newly added confirmed deaths from COVID was in Clarke County.

The Department of Public Health also had reported two new confirmed deaths from the disease in its report on Jan. 10.

Weekly Report

Although the Department of Public Health is releasing a report only weekly, it is gathering data on a daily basis, and the weekly report includes a data file containing case counts each day, ending on a Wednesday.

At-home test results are not included in the electronic reporting system.

The average number of added cases per day in the last seven days ending on Jan. 17 was 68.7, up from 57.6 on Jan. 10, from 39.7 on Jan. 3 and from 26.3 on Dec. 27.

Oconee County added 25 new cases in the seven days ending on Jan. 17.

Oconee County had added 27 new cases in the week ending on Jan. 10.

Clarke County added 116 new cases in the seven days ending on Jan. 17. It had added 69 new cases in the seven days ending on Jan. 10.

The unstandardized rolling average of added cases in Oconee County on Jan. 17 was 4.0. It had been 3.7 on Jan. 10.

The unstandardized seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County on Jan. 17 was 17.7, up from 9.9 on Jan. 10.

Deaths

The new confirmed deaths from COVID-19 were in Clarke County and Jackson County.

The Clarke County death was of a 56-year-old female without a chronic condition.

That death brings to 255 the number of deaths in Clarke County since the onset of COVID in February of 2020. It represents 198.2 deaaths per 100,000 population

The death in Jackson County brings to 307 in that county since the onset of the pandemic in February of 2020, or 404.4 deaths per 100,000 population.

The total number of confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District now stands at 1,795, or 338.6 deaths per 100,000 population.

Oconee County has 108 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the county since February of 2020, or 258.4 deaths per 100,000 population, the second lowest ratio in the Northeast Health District after Clarke County.

The Northeast Health District reported 197 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, the same as a week earlier.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northeast Health District includes, in addition to Oconee and Clarke counties, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
