COVID Case Count In Northeast Health District Increases Slightly, Georgia Department Of Public Health Reports

***One Of Two Confirmed Deaths In Clarke***

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported that the Northeast Health District added 509 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on Feb. 14, based on the Department’s electronic tracking system.

The Department of Public Health reported the Northeast Health District had added 485 cases in the week ending on Feb. 7, 544 cases in the week ending Jan. 31, 406 cases in the week ending Jan. 24, 481 cases in the week ending on Jan. 17, 403 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on Jan. 10, and 278 cases in the week ending on Jan. 3.

The Department of Public Health reported two new confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District in its report on Wednesday.

One of those deaths was in Clarke County.

The Department of Public Health had reported five new confirmed deaths from the disease in its report on Feb. 7.

Weekly Report

Although the Department of Public Health is releasing a report only weekly, it is gathering data on a daily basis, and the weekly report includes a data file containing case counts each day, ending on a Wednesday.

At-home test results are not included in the electronic reporting system.

The average number of added cases per day in the last seven days ending Feb. 14 was 72.7, up from 69.3 on Feb. 7.

Oconee County added 35 new cases in the seven days ending on Feb. 14.

Oconee County also had added 35 new cases in the week ending on Feb. 7.

Clarke County added 91 new cases in the seven days ending on Feb. 14. It had added 79 new cases in the seven days ending on Feb. 7.

The unstandardized rolling average of added cases in Oconee County on Feb. 14 was 5.4. On Feb. 7, it was 5.0.

The unstandardized seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County on Feb. 14 was 13.6, up from 11.6 on Feb. 7.

Deaths

The Clarke County confirmed death from COVID-19 was of a 77-year-old male without a chronic condition.

The death brings to 256 the number of confirmed deaths in the county from COVID-19 since the onset of the disease in February of 2020.

The Clarke County death represents 199.0 deaths per 100,000 population in the county.

The other death reported this week was in Morgan County, which now has 64 confirmed deaths from the disease, representing 318.5 deaths per 100,000 population.

The Northeast Health District as a whole now has reported 1,804 deaths since February of 2020, or 340.3 deaths per 100,000 population.

Clarke County has the lowest rate of deaths per 100,000 population in the 10-county Northeast Health District, followed by Oconee County, which has 109 deaths from the disease, or 260.8 per 100,000 population.

Elbert County has the highest death rate from the disease in the Northeast Health District, with 479.6 deaths per 100,000, but it is followed by Walton County with 458.2 deaths per 100,000.

Elbert County has 94 recorded confirmed deaths and Walton County has 443, the largest number of any county in the district.

The Northeast Health District reported 197 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, the same as a week earlier.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northeast Health District includes, in addition to Oconee and Clarke counties, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
