COVID Cases Remain At Very Low Level In NE Health District, State Public Health Department Data Show

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported that the Northeast Health District added 108 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on March 27, based on the Department’s electronic tracking system.

The Department of Public Health reported the Northeast Health District had added 87 cases in the week ending on March 20, 132 cases in the week ending on March 13, and 229 cases in the week ending on March 6.

Although the Department of Public Health is releasing a report only weekly, it is gathering data on a daily basis, and the weekly report includes a data file containing case counts each day, ending on a Wednesday.

At-home test results are not included in the electronic reporting system.

The average number of added cases per day in the last seven days ending March 27 was 15.4, up from the 12.4 reported on March 20.

Oconee County added three new cases in the seven days ending on March 27.

Oconee County had added 11 new cases in the week ending on March 20.

Clarke County added 21 new cases in the seven days ending on March 27. It had added 22 new cases in the seven days ending on March 20.

The unstandardized rolling average of added cases in Oconee County on March 27 was 0.0. It was 1.3 on March 20.

The rolling average was the lowest in the last 12 months. The unstandardized rolling average had been 0.1 on May 2, the lowest average prior to this week.

(The Department of Public Health revised its count of cases in Oconee County for March 20, increasing the total by three, resulting in the discrepancy between the changes in cases and the rolling average. The data file released on Wednesday showed Oconee County adding no cases in each of the last seven days.)

The unstandardized seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County on March 27 was 3.3. It had been 3.7 on March 20.

Deaths

The Northeast Health District as a whole now has reported 1,812 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since February of 2020, or 341.8 deaths per 100,000 population.

Clarke County with 259 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 has the lowest rate of deaths per 100,000 population (201.3) in the 10-county Northeast Health District, followed by Oconee County, which has 109 deaths from the disease, or 260.8 per 100,000 population.

Elbert County has the highest death rate from the disease in the Northeast Health District, with 479.6 deaths per 100,000, and it is followed by Walton County with 458.2 deaths per 100,000.

Elbert County has 94 recorded confirmed deaths and Walton County has 443, the largest number of any county in the district.

The Northeast Health District reported 197 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, the same as a week earlier.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northeast Health District includes, in addition to Oconee and Clarke counties, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
