Department Of Public Health Reports Increases in COVID-19 Cases And Deaths For Northeast Health District And State

***All Four Seven-Day Rolling Averages Increased***

Both the Northeast Health District and the state as a whole reported large increases in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and increases in deaths attributed to the disease in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report for Friday.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases of COVID-19 and added deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased both in the 10-county Northeast Health District of the Department of Public Health and across the whole of Georgia.

Each of the 10 counties in the Northeast Health District added at least one new confirmed case of COVID-19 from the Thursday to the Friday report, with Oconee County adding three cases and Clarke County adding 16.

The district as a whole added 59 new cases, and the seven-day rolling average jumped from 24.0 on Thursday to 26.9 on Friday.

The Daily Status Report listed two new COVID-19 deaths in the Northeast Health District, with the death of an 80-year-old female in Barrow County with no chronic condition and of a 78-year-old female in Jackson County with a known chronic condition.

The two newly reported deaths in the Northeast Health District brought the seven-day rolling average of added deaths to 2.7 on Friday from 2.4 on Thursday.

Other Reports On Region

The Department of Community Health Long-Term Care Facility Report for Friday contained some good news for the Northeast Health District.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 Positive Residents remained at 390, as it has been since Wednesday.

The Department of Community Health reported again on Friday the number of current residents with the disease, and that figure dropped from 241 on Thursday to 239 on Friday.

The Friday Department of Community Health report did add one death, at a nursing home in Walton County.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency Daily Situation Report on Friday also contained the good news that the number of Critical Care Beds available in area hospitals increased from 10 in the Thursday report to 17 in the Friday report.

State Data

Across the state, the number of new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the 3 p.m. Daily Status Report for Friday was 774, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 707.3 from 682.4 on Thursday.

The number of added deaths in the Friday report was 27, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased from 26.5 on Thursday to 28.6 on Friday.

The state reported that of the 27 added cases, 24 had occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by time of occurrence rather than date of reporting increased on Friday for the third day in a row.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 has dropped from its peak in the third week of April, but it seems to be hovering at about 20 deaths per day in recent weeks.

As with the regional data, the Department of Community Health and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency reports for Friday were more encouraging.

The Department of Community Health reported on Friday that COVID-19 was present in 413 long-term care facilities across the state, down from 417 on Thursday.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported that the number of Current Confirmed COVID-19 Hospitalizations had dropped from 807 in the Thursday report to 790 in the Friday report.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency also reported that the number of ventilators in use had dropped from 832 in the Thursday report to 825 in the Friday report.
