Seven-Day Rolling Averages Of Added COVID-19 Cases And Deaths Increase In Northeast Health District

***Region Reflects Statewide Trends***

Reflecting trends across the state as a whole, the Northeast Health District added 148 confirmed COVID-19 cases based on molecular tests on Thursday, 48 cases based on antigen tests, and four deaths, pushing up the rolling averages in each of the measures of the disease.

The deaths were of a 61-year-old male in Barrow County without a chronic condition, a 62-year-old male in Jackson County with a chronic condition, a 71-year-old female in Walton County without a chronic condition, and an 84-year-old male in Walton County with a chronic condition.

Barrow County now has 56 deaths from the corona virus, Jackson County has 46, and Walton County has 74. The 10-county Northeast Health District has 331 deaths listed in the Daily Status Report.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased on Thursday to 2.4 from 2.1 on Wednesday. The District has added at least one death for the last 11 days.

The 148 confirmed cases based on molecular tests pushed up the seven-day rolling average of added cases to 96.3 on Thursday from 89.7 on Wednesday.

The 48 positive cases based on antigen or rapid tests pushed up the seven-day rolling average of added antigen cases to 51.3 on Thursday from 48.9 on Wednesday.

Every county in the Northeast Health District added confirmed cases based on the molecular tests on Thursday, with Oconee County adding six cases and Clarke County adding 53. The seven-day rolling average of added cases decreased slightly on Oconee County, which had added 10 cases on Thursday of last week, but increased in Clarke County.

Every county except Oglethorpe added cases based on the antigen tests, and Oconee County added three cases and Clarke County added nine.

Multiple Tests, Hospital Data

According to the Department of Public Health, people with a positive test often get retested and may test positive multiple times. These repeat positive tests are not reported as new cases, the Department states.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Thursday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (83) decreased by four from the day before, that the number of ICU beds in use (67) increased by one from the day before, and that the number of adult ventilators in use (32) increased by two from the day before.

The Department of Community Health, in its Thursday Long-Term Care Facility Report, listed two additional COVID-19 Positive Residents in the Northeast Health District’s long term care facilities and three additional COVID-19 Positive Staff.

The resident cases were at Avery Place, a personal care home in Athens-Clarke County. One of the staff cases was at Madison Health and Rehab nursing home in Morgan County, and two were at Park Place Nursing Facility in Walton County.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 70 new deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the Thursday Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 40.6 on Thursday, up from 38.9 on Wednesday.

Only 17 of the added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths based on date of occurrence fell slightly on Thursday.

The Daily Status Report also listed five additional probable deaths from COVID-19. The seven-day rolling average of added probable deaths increased to 3.7 on Thursday from 3.3 on Wednesday.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases, confirmed via molecular tests, increased to 1,739.0 on Thursday from 1,659.9 on Wednesday.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases, based on antigen tests, increased to 831.3 on Thursday from 822.9 on Wednesday.

Across the state, the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Thursday that the number of COVID-19 patients (1,662) increased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,455) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (797) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Community Health on Thursday reported COVID-19 cases at 653 long-term care facilities across the state, one more than on Wednesday.
