The Northeast Health District added 267 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and two deaths from the disease. The seven-day rolling average of added cases continued to decline, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths continued to increase.
The two deaths were of an 84-year-old male in Clarke County with a chronic condition and of a 77-year-old female in Walton County with a chronic condition.
The deaths bring to 77 the number from COVID-19 in Clarke County and to 104 the number from the disease in Walton County.
Across the entire 10-county Northeast Health District, the Georgia Department of Public Health now counts 477 confirmed deaths from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased on Monday to 6.6 from 6.4 on Sunday.
The seven-day rolling average of added deaths has not declined day-to-day since Jan. 4.
The 267 new COVID-19 cases listed in the Daily Status Report resulted in a seven-day rolling average of added cases of 494.3, down from 513.1 on Sunday. The seven-day rolling average has declined each of the last five days.
Deaths generally lag cases and had not begun to increase until about a week after cases began their increase on Dec. 29.
Oconee County added 13 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, and Clarke County added 43. The seven-day rolling average of added cases in Oconee County dropped to 34.4 from 36.6 on Sunday, and in Clarke County the seven-day rolling average dropped to 94.7 from 98.4 on Sunday.
Oconee County Schools issues its report on COVID-19 in the schools to the public only on Friday, but school principals send notices to parents as new positive tests in the schools are identified.
At 6:07 on Tuesday, Malcom Bridge Middle School Principal Michael Eddy informed parents about “an individual” in the school “who tested positive for COVID-19.” He sent a message about another “individual” at 6:03 p.m. on Monday.
Tony McCullers, principal at Colham Ferry Elementary School, informed parents of students in that school in an email message at 3:00 p.m. on Monday about “an individual in our school who tested positive for COVID-19.”
Similar form letters were sent to parents at North Oconee High School and Oconee County Primary School. At the Primary School, “two individuals” tested positive.
Parents sent me copies of these emails, and, based on others sent by parents earlier, the number of new cases since Oconee County Schools reported a record number of Active COVID-19 Cases on Friday (40) is now at least 12.
The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Monday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (281) decreased by one from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (79) decreased by one from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (46) decreased by one from the day before.
State Data
The Department of Public Health Daily Status Report listed 5,189 new cases of COVID-19 across the state of Georgia on Monday, and the seven-day rolling average of added new cases declined from 8,689.1 on Sunday to 8,324.7 on Monday.
The seven-day rolling average has dropped the last five days.
The state added 63 new deaths from the coronavirus, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 114.7 on Monday from 108.1 on Sunday. The state had added 17 deaths on Monday of last week.
Only six of the deaths added on Monday occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths based on date of occurrence decreased.
The Daily Status Report listed one “probable death” from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable deaths” increased slightly to 12.7 from 12.6 on Sunday.
Across the state, the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Monday that the number of COVID-19 patients (5,552) increased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,758) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,597) increased from the day before.
The Department of Public Health reported adding 20,056 new COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday, and the total number of persons vaccinated in the state is now 423,011, or 3.9 percent of the state’s population.
The Department of Community Health did not release a Long-Term Care Facility Report on Monday.
