Northeast Health District Adds Eight Confirmed COVID-19 Deaths, Including One In Clarke County

***Rolling Averages Added Deaths, Cases Declined***

The Northeast Health District added eight confirmed COVID-19 deaths, including one in Clarke County, with the release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths fell slightly.

The 10-county District also added 132 new cases of the disease, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases continued to decline.

The Clarke County confirmed death was of a 70-year-old male without a chronic condition. The death brings to 106 the number of confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in Clarke County since the pandemic began a year ago.

Barrow County reported the death of a 72-year-old male without a chronic condition, and Madison County listed the deaths of a 67-year-old female and a 72-year-old male, neither of whom had a chronic condition.

The Saturday Daily Status Report included the death of a 79-year-old male in Oglethorpe County without a chronic condition and three deaths in Walton County: an 84-year-old male with a chronic condition, an 84-year-old without a chronic condition, and an 86-year-old female without a chronic condition.

The District now has 744 confirmed deaths from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dropped to 6.6 from 6.7 on Friday. The District had added nine deaths last Saturday.

Cases, Hospital Report, Vaccinations

With the addition of the 132 new cases of COVID-19, the seven-day rolling average of added cases fell on Saturday to 143.0 from 150.1 on Friday.

Oconee County added eight cases, and Clarke County added 22. The seven-day rolling average of added cases fell to 8.7 in Oconee County on Saturday from 8.9 on Friday, and in Clarke County, the rolling average on Saturday fell to 31.4 from 34.3 on Friday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Saturday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (112) decreased by five from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (66) increased by six from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (34) was unchanged from the day before.

The Northeast Health District added 1,477 vaccinations on Saturday, down from 2,703 on Friday; 454 of the added doses were first doses, and 1,023 of those were second doses.

The total doses of the second shot administered represent 3.3 percent of the District’s 530,630 residents. 

State Data

The state as a whole added 99 deaths in Saturday’s Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths declined to 97.0 on Saturday from 98.0 on Friday.

Fifty of those added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, however, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by occurrence increased sharply on Saturday.

The Department of Public Health also added 38 “probable” deaths from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable” deaths increased just slightly to 32.7 from 32.6 on Friday.

The Saturday Daily Status Report added 3,515 new cases of COVID-19 across the state on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped to 3,163.7 from 3,237.6 on Friday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Saturday that the number of COVID-19 patients (2,418) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,537) decreased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,284) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported administration of 60,141 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations on Saturday, down from 61,983 on Friday. The number of first doses was 19,923, and the number of second doses was 40,218.

The total number of vaccinations in the state is now 1,728,746, and the total number of second doses is 584,682, which represents 5.4 percent of the state’s 10.8 million residents.

The Department of Public Health reported no new allocations of the vaccine to the state and no additional shipments of the vaccine.

As of Saturday, 88.3 percent of the doses shipped to the state had been administered.
