Decline In Rolling Averages Of Added Cases And Deaths Halted In Northeast Health District

***State Releases Data On Vaccination Rates At County Level***

With the addition of 50 new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths from the disease in Tuesday’s Daily Status Report, the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased in the Northeast Health District while the rolling average of added deaths from the disease remained unchanged.

The increase in the rolling average of added cases, to 58.0 on Tuesday from 55.9 on Monday, reversed a five-day drop in the rolling average of added cases.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths stood at 1.6 deaths per day. That average had dropped six days in a row prior to Tuesday.

The District added one “probable” death from the coronavirus–in Walton County. Walton County now has 20 “probable” deaths, the most of any of the 10 counties in the Northeast Health District. As a whole, the District has 82 “probable” deaths.

Walton County also has the most confirmed deaths–227 out of the total 880 confirmed deaths from the disease in the District.

Oconee County added four cases of COVID-19 in Tuesday’s Daily Status Report, and Clarke County added 16.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases increased just slightly in Oconee County to 4.4 on Tuesday from 4.3 on Monday. In Clarke County, the rolling average increased to 13.3 from 11.7 on Monday.

The Department of Community Health, in its Tuesday Long-Term Care Facility Report, listed one new resident case of COVID-19 and one new staff case of the disease in the Northeast Health District’s long-long term care homes.

Both the resident and staff cases were at Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walton county.

Hospital Report, Vaccinations

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (38) decreased by four from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (53) decreased by three from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (25) decreased by four from the day before.

The Department of Public Health resuscitated its Vaccine Distribution Dashboard on Tuesday with new data at the county level.

According to that website, 12.7 percent of the population of the Northeast Health District is now fully vaccinated.

The figure is 19.5 percent in Oconee County and 13.6 percent in Clarke County.

The percentages for Oconee and Clarke are based on my own calculations, using the listed number of fully vaccinated residents from the Department of Public Health (17,665 in Clarke and 8,118 in Oconee) and the population estimates used by the Department of Public Health in its Daily Status Report.

The Vaccine Distribution Dashboard lists the figure in Oconee County as 21 percent and in Clarke County as 14 percent.

The Centers for Disease and Prevention, on its COVID Data Tracker, lists the percent of the population fully vaccinated for Oconee County as 10.2 percent and for Clarke County as 8.7 percent.

The CDC says that it has data with a “valid county of residence” for only 50.3 percent of the vaccinated recipients in Georgia.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 1,583 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 1,399.9 from 1,378.1 on Monday.

The Daily Status Report added 12 confirmed COVID-19 deaths across the state on Tuesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths was 33.6, the same as it had been on Monday.

Eight of the 12 added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by day of occurrence increased slightly on Tuesday from Monday.

The Department of Public Health added 14 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 in Tuesday’s Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable” deaths was 3.3, down just slightly from 3.4 on Monday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients (1,128) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,265) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (975) increased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health, through its updated Vaccine Distribution Dashboard, on Tuesday reported that 1,510,159 of the state’s residents are fully vaccinated.

Based on the DPH estimate of the state’s population used in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report, that is 13.9 percent of the population.

The Dashboard lists the figure as 15 percent.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1,421,747 Georgians are fully vaccinated and says that is 13.4 percent of the state’s population.

The Department of Public Health has estimated Georgia’s population as 10.8 million, while the CDC is using the U.S. Bureau of the Census estimate of 10.6 million, the calculations show.

Georgia continues to have the lowest percentage of its population vaccinated of any of the states in the country, according to the CDC figures.
