Rolling Averages For Added COVID-19 Cases And Confirmed COVID-19 Deaths Decrease In Northeast Health District

***Oconee Leads District In Percent Of Population Vaccinated***

The seven-day rolling averages of added COVID-19 cases and confirmed deaths from the disease fell on Friday with the release of the Department of Public Health’s Daily Status Report.

The District added 65 cases and four confirmed deaths.

Two of the confirmed deaths were in Clarke County, and the other two were in Walton County.

The Clarke County deaths were of a 57-year-old male with a chronic condition and an 82-year-old male, also with a chronic condition.

The Walton County deaths were of an 80-year-old female with a chronic condition and an 84-year-old male with a chronic condition.

The deaths bring to 133 the number recorded in Clarke County since the beginning of the pandemic and to 229 the number in Walton County.

The Clarke County death rate of 102.5 per 100,000 population remains the lowest in the 10-county Northeast Heath District, while Walton County’s death rate of 239.0 per 100,000 population is near the top.

Clarke County has added eight deaths in the last two weeks, and its rate of death per 100,000 population has increased from 96.3 to its current 102.5, while Walton County has added five cases, and its rate has increased from 233.8 to its current 239.0.

The District now has 892 deaths from the coronavirus, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths fell to 2.0 confirmed deaths per day from 2.3 on Thursday.

Cases, Hospital Reports, Vaccinations

With the addition of the 65 cases of COVID-19 in the District on Friday, the seven-day rolling average of added cases decreased to 51.4 cases per day from 52.6 on Friday.

Oconee County added four cases, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases fell to 3.3 from 4.1 on Thursday. Clarke County added 18 cases, and the seven-day rolling average in Clarke increased to 13.3 from 12.7 on Thursday.

Oconee County Schools are on spring break, and it issued no Weekly COVID-19 Status Report on Friday.

The Department of Community Health issued its Long-Term Care Facility Report for Thursday only on Friday and did not issue a Report on Friday.

The Thursday Report did not list any new COVID-19 deaths or cases at long-term care facilities covered by the Report in the Northeast Health District.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Friday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (44) decreased by one from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (51) decreased by six from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (31) was unchanged from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported on Friday that 13.8 percent of the population of the Northeast Health District is now fully vaccinated, up from 13.5 percent on Thursday.

Oconee County has the highest percent of its population vaccinated in the 10-county District with 21.1 percent. Clarke County is at 15.0 percent.

I calculated these percentages based on the population figures given by the Department of Public Health in the Daily Status Report. The dashboard lists a higher percentage for Oconee County.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 1,615 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases decreased to 1,332.0 from 1,348.1 on Thursday.

The Daily Status Report added 48 confirmed COVID-19 deaths across the state on Friday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths decreased to 29.9 from 32.1 on Thursday.

Sixteen of the 48 added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by day of occurrence increased just slightly on Friday from Thursday.

The Department of Public Health eliminated four deaths it had previously listed as confirmed COVID-19 deaths.

The Department of Public Health added six “probable” deaths from COVID-19 in Friday’s Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable” deaths was 6.4, up from 4.7 on Thursday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Friday that the number of COVID-19 patients (1,164) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,313) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (973) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health on Friday reported that 15.2 percent of the state’s population is fully vaccinated, up from 14.8 percent on Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the figure as 15.0 percent.

Georgia remains in the last place among the 50 states in percent of its population vaccinated and would remain in last place even if the 15.2 percent is used.

The charts below show the seven-day rolling average of the addition of COVID-19 molecular and antigen cases combined for the Northeast Health District and for the state of Georgia since Nov. 3, when the state first began reporting antigen test results.

The data in the charts come from the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report and have been updated for the 2:50 p.m. Report on Friday.
