The Northeast Health District added 70 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on Friday, and four confirmed deaths attributed to the disease.
The 70 added cases of COVID-19 and four deaths compare with the 91 cases and the five confirmed deaths added in the week ending June 18.
The average of 10.0 new cases per day for the week ending on Friday compares with the average of 13.0 new cases per day for the week ending on June 18.
Oconee County added no cases in the week ending on Friday, and Clarke County added 19.
In the week ending on June 18, Oconee County added six cases and Clarke County added 30.
Two of the four confirmed deaths from COVID-19 were in Barrow County, and two were in Walton County.
The four deaths bring to 945 the number in the 10-county Northeast Health District since the outbreak of the pandemic in February of 2020.
The Northeast Health District had 94 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Friday, the same as a week earlier.

University, Long-Term Care, Hospital Reports
The University of Georgia on Wednesday, in its COVID-19 Health and Exposure Update, reported one positive COVID-19 test. The test that was reported was not local.
The University had reported one positive COVID-19 test last week as well. That test was conducted at the University Health Center.
The University reported that 104 individuals were tested at the walk-in Legion Field site, up from 43 a week earlier, and none of the tests came back positive.
This was the sixth week in a row that none of the tests at Legion Field came back positive.
The Department of Community Health, in its Long-Term Care Facility Report on Friday, reported one new case of COVID-19 among residents of the District’s 44 facilities covered by the report and 16 new cases of the disease among staff of those facilities.
The Department of Community Health had not released a report on a Friday since June 4, so the newly added cases are across the last three weeks, rather than the last seven days.
The new resident case was at Nancy Hart Nursing Center in Elbert County, and the staff cases were all at Legacy Health and Rehabilitation nursing home in Greene County.
The Georgia Hospital Association and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported on Friday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals was seven, the number of ICU beds in use was 50, and the number of adult ventilators in use was 26.
On Friday a week earlier, the number of COVID-19 patients was 18, the number of ICU beds in use was 63, and the number of adult ventilators in use was 26.
Vaccine Updates
According to the raw data behind the Department of Public Health Vaccine Distribution Dashboard for Friday, 35.8 percent of the residents of the Northeast Health District had at least one dose of a vaccine on Friday and 32.5 percent were fully vaccinated.

Last week, those figures were 35.6 with at least one dose and 32.1 fully vaccinated.
In the 10-county Northeast Health District, Oconee County has the highest rate of residents with at least one dose (48.0 percent) and the highest percentage fully vaccinated (44.2 percent).
Clarke County has 39.4 percent of its residents with at least one dose and 36.1 percent fully vaccinated.
A week ago, Oconee County also was at the top of the District, with 47.8 percent of its residents with at least one dose and 43.9 percent fully vaccinated.
A week ago, 39.2 percent of Clarke County’s residents had at least one dose of the vaccines, and 35.8 percent were fully vaccinated.
These percentages are different from those shown on the Vaccine Distribution Dashboard.
I have used the population estimates used by the Department of Public Health in the Daily Status Report rather than the lower population estimates that the Department of Public Health uses in the Vaccine Distribution Dashboard.
State, National Comparisons
Oconee County added only 218 new vaccinations in the last seven days ending on Friday, compared with 3,232 the week earlier, and 725 the week before that.
Clarke County added 643 new vaccinations in the last seven days, compared with 9,412 a week earlier and 1,755 the week before that.
Reporting of vaccinations for last week appears to have been an anomaly.
Georgia continues to be among the states with the lowest percentage of its population fully vaccinated.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia has only 35.4 percent of its population fully vaccinated. Only Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Wyoming, and Tennessee have lower percentages.
Nationally, the percentage of persons fully vaccinated is 45.7.
The figure is 64.7 in Vermont, the state with the highest rate of full vaccination.

Are the figures you post for adult population or do they include all eligible, i.e., 12-17 age too?

The CDC is reporting Clarke County Georgia has 17.4% of total population is fully vaccinated. Are they saying adult population? Because they also post the percent of population > or = age 12 fully vaccinated is 19.7%. I don’t understand what the total vaccinated population 12 and over is.

As of this response (7/5/21), the CDC is reporting that 47.4 percent of the total population in the U.S. is fully vaccinated and 55.4 percent of the population 12 years of age 12 years old or older is fully vaccinated.
I have been reporting the first of these figures.
The CDC also reports that 58.2 percent of the population 18 years old or older is vaccinated, and 78.7 percent of the population 65 years old and older is vaccinated.
For the state, the CDC is reporting as of this response (7/5/21) that 36.8 percent of the total population is fully vaccinated and 43.5 percent of those 12 years old and older is fully vaccinated.
The CDC also reports for the state that 46.7 percent of the population 18 years old or older is fully vaccinated and 71.2 percent of those 65 years old and older is vaccinated.
I will note the 12 plus figure when I update the figures after release of the reports on Friday.
