Official Count Of COVID-19 Cases In Department of Public Health Northeast Health District Continues Sharp Decline

***Four Confirmed Deaths From Disease Reported***

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported that the Northeast Health District added only 229 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on March 6, based on the Department’s electronic tracking system.

The Department of Public Health reported the Northeast Health District had added 311 cases in the week ending on Feb. 28, 374 cases in the week ending on Feb. 21, 509 cases in the week ending on Feb. 14, and 485 cases in the week ending on Feb. 7.

The Department of Public Health reported four new confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District in its report on Wednesday.

The Department of Public Health had reported no new confirmed deaths from the disease in its report on Feb. 28.

Weekly Report

Although the Department of Public Health is releasing a report only weekly, it is gathering data on a daily basis, and the weekly report includes a data file containing case counts each day, ending on a Wednesday.

At-home test results are not included in the electronic reporting system.

The average number of added cases per day in the last seven days ending March 6 was 32.7, down from 44.4 on Feb. 28.

Oconee County added only three new cases in the seven days ending on March 6.

Oconee County had added 15 new cases in each of the last two weeks.

Clarke County added 57 new cases in the seven days ending on March 6. It had added 55 new cases in the seven days ending on Feb. 28.

The unstandardized rolling average of added cases in Oconee County on March 6 was 0.9. It was 1.7 on Feb. 28.

The unstandardized seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County on March 6 as 8.0. It was 8.4 on Feb. 28.

Deaths

Two of the four newly reported confirmed deaths were in Greene County, and two were in Jackson County.

Greene County now has 85 confirmed deaths from the disease since the onset of the pandemic in February of 2020, or 449.4 deaths per 100,000 population.

Jackson County now has 309 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 since February of 2020, or 407.1 deaths per 100,000 population.

The Northeast Health District as a whole now has reported 1,809 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since February of 2020, or 341.2 deaths per 100,000 population.

Clarke County with 257 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 has the lowest rate of deaths per 100,000 population in the 10-county Northeast Health District, at 199.7, followed by Oconee County, which has 109 deaths from the disease, or 260.8 per 100,000 population.

Elbert County has the highest death rate from the disease in the Northeast Health District, with 479.6 deaths per 100,000, and it is followed by Walton County with 458.2 deaths per 100,000.

Elbert County has 94 recorded confirmed deaths and Walton County has 443, the largest number of any county in the district.

The Northeast Health District reported 197 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, the same as a week earlier.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northeast Health District includes, in addition to Oconee and Clarke counties, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
