State Department Of Public Health Reports Continued Decline In COVID-19 Cases In Northeast Health District

***Clarke Again Reports Confirmed Death From Disease***

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported that the Northeast Health District added only 87 new cases of COVID-19 in the week ending on March 20, based on the Department’s electronic tracking system.

The Department of Public Health reported the Northeast Health District had added 132 cases in the week ending on March 13, 229 cases in the week ending on March 6, 311 cases in the week ending on Feb. 28, and 374 cases in the week ending on Feb. 21.

The Department of Public Health reported one new confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District in its report on Wednesday.

The Department of Public Health had reported two new confirmed deaths from the disease in its report on March 13.

The newly reported confirmed deaths from COVID-19 was in Clarke County, which also reported a confirmed death from the disease a week earlier.

Weekly Report

Although the Department of Public Health is releasing a report only weekly, it is gathering data on a daily basis, and the weekly report includes a data file containing case counts each day, ending on a Wednesday.

At-home test results are not included in the electronic reporting system.

The average number of added cases per day in the last seven days ending March 20 was 12.4, down from 18.9 on March 13.

Oconee County added 11 new cases in the seven days ending on March 20.

Oconee County had added five new cases in the week ending on March 13 and three new cases in the week ending on March 6.

Clarke County added 22 new cases in the seven days ending on March 20. It had added 29 new cases in the seven days ending on March 13.

The unstandardized rolling average of added cases in Oconee County on March 20 was 1.3. It was 1.0 on March 13.

The unstandardized seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County on March 20 was 3.7. It was 4.4 on March 13.

Deaths

The Clarke County death was of an 85-year-old male without a chronic condition.

The death brings to 259 the number in the county since the onset of the pandemic in February of 2020, or 201.3 deaths per 100,000 population.

The Northeast Health District as a whole now has reported 1,812 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since February of 2020, or 341.8 deaths per 100,000 population.

Clarke County with its 259 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 has the lowest rate of deaths per 100,000 population in the 10-county Northeast Health District, followed by Oconee County, which has 109 deaths from the disease, or 260.8 per 100,000 population.

Elbert County has the highest death rate from the disease in the Northeast Health District, with 479.6 deaths per 100,000, and it is followed by Walton County with 458.2 deaths per 100,000.

Elbert County has 94 recorded confirmed deaths and Walton County has 443, the largest number of any county in the district.

The Northeast Health District reported 197 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, the same as a week earlier.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northeast Health District includes, in addition to Oconee and Clarke counties, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
