Clarke And Oconee Counties Add COVID-19 Cases As Northeast Health District Sets Record Seven-Day Rolling Average Of Added Cases

***No New COVID-19 Deaths Added***

The Department of Public Health added 144 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 10-county Northeast Health District with the release of the Daily Status Report on Thursday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases in the District increased to a new record of 116.9.

The Department of Public Health did not list any new deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the District, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths remained unchanged at 1.9.

Clarke County continued to add cases at a high rate, with 42 new cases in the Thursday Daily Status Report. Oconee County added seven. All 10 counties in the District added cases.

Clarke County has added only two deaths since the beginning of May and no deaths in July, and its current death toll stands at 15. It has added 513 cases since July 1.

Oconee County, in contrast, has added all 14 of its deaths since May 1 and four since July 1. Oconee County added 105 cases since July 1.

Clarke County’s death to case ratio stands at .014, while Oconee County’s death to case ratio is .053.

The Department of Community Health currently lists 11 deaths at five long-term care facilities in Clarke County and eight at two long-term care facilities in Oconee County.

The deaths at the long-term care facilities do not always end up in the Daily Status Report.

At least eight deaths listed in the Department of Community Health Long-Term Care Facility Report in Jackson County since June 29 still have not been included in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report.

The Department of Community Health Long-Term Care Facility Report for Thursday listed 29 facilities in the Northeast Health District with COVID-19 cases among the residents and/or staff, up from 27 on Wednesday.

New to the list are facilities in Elbert and Greene counties, each of which reported a staff member with the disease. The Oaks Athens Skilled Nursing also reported another staff member having been infected by the virus.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency reported that the number of available Critical Care Beds at area hospitals increased from seven in the Wednesday report to eight in the Thursday report.

State Data

The state as a whole added 3,441 new COVID-19 confirmed cases on Thursday with the release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 3,506.9, a new record.

The Daily Status reported added 13 new deaths, 11 of them in the last 14 days. The two older deaths were added for May 1 and June 14.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased just slightly from 24.1 on Wednesday to 24.9 on Thursday.

The Department of Community Health listed 564 long-term care facilities with COVID-19 cases in its Thursday report, up from 557 on Wednesday.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency said that the state had 2,841 Current Confirmed COVID-19 Hospitalizations in its Thursday report, up by 55 from the day before. The Thursday figure was a new record going back to May 1, when the Agency began releasing these data.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency listed 1,098 ventilators in use, up by six from its Wednesday report.

The report contains what appears to be a simple subtraction error, as did the one on Wednesday and as have many in the past.

The report states that 1,698 ventilators are available, based on a total list 2,804 in the state. The difference between 2,804 and the 1,098 in use is 1,706, not 1,698.

Do you keep a tally of what is considered to be 'active cases? i.e. cases reported n the past 14 days?

Andrew,

Yes, I can compute that number. In Oconee County, 103 cases have been added in the last 14 days. In Clarke County, the figure is 480. In the state, the figure is 43,566.

There is some disagreement on what is an active case. Some argue it should be 21 days. If that time period is used, the total is 123 for Oconee, 646 for Clarke, and 60,180 for the state.

I am asking all who make comments to either use a Google Address that contains their real name or type their real name at the end of the comment.

Thanks.
