Seven-Day Rolling Average Added COVID-19 Cases In Northeast Health District Has Increased Five Days Running

***District Lagging State In Vaccinations***

The Northeast Health District added 99 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased for the fifth day in a row.

The District did not add any new deaths in the Sunday Daily Status Report of the Department of Public Health, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths remained unchanged at 5.4.

The 99 added cases compared with 78 on Sunday of last week, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 156.0 from 153.0 on Saturday.

Oconee County added seven cases, and Clarke County added 16. The seven-day rolling average of added cases in Oconee County increased to 10.0 from 9.7 on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases in Clarke County increased to 26.0 from 25.7 on Saturday.

The increase in cases in the District and in both Oconee and Clarke counties has been small, but it now is clear that the dramatic decline in cases has been halted and even reversed.

The Department of Community Health does not issue a Long-Term Care Facility Report on the weekends.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Sunday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (85) decreased by four from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (62) was unchanged from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (32) increased by two from the same as the day before.

The Northeast Health District added 899 vaccinations on Sunday, down from 1,838 on Saturday; 462 of the added vaccinations were first doses, and 437 were second doses.

The total number of second doses (24,935) represents 4.7 percent of the District’s 530,630 residents.

The total number of second doses across the state on Sunday was 775,265, which represents 7.2 percent of the state’s 10.8 million residents.

The District is falling behind the state in vaccinations.

The gap between the Northeast Health District and the state as a whole in second doses was 2.5 percentage points on Sunday. It had been 2.2 percent last Sunday.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 2,474 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased to 3,205.1 from 3,124.7 on Saturday.

The state added two confirmed deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths fell to 63.1 from 64.0 on Saturday. The state had added eight deaths last Sunday,

Both of the confirmed deaths were in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by occurrence fell on Sunday from Saturday. The rolling average of added deaths by date usually falls on weekends as reporting drops.

The Department of Public Health eliminated one death from its list of previously confirmed deaths from the disease. That death had been on Jan. 20.

The Daily Status Report did not add any “probable” deaths from the coronavirus on Sunday, but the seven-day rolling average of added “probable” deaths increased to 16.6 from 15.6 on Sunday.

The Department of Public Health had eliminated seven “probable” deaths from its archive on Sunday of last week.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Sunday that the number of COVID-19 patients (1,924) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,426) decreased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,164) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported administration of 49,669 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations on Sunday, down from 62,242 on Saturday. The number of first doses was 31,703, and the number of second doses was 17,966.

The total number of vaccinations in the state is now 1,998,922. The state has 10.8 million residents.

The Department of Public Health reported no new allocation of doses of the vaccine or distributions of the vaccine on Sunday.

All but 3,775 of the allocated 2,484,950 allocated doses have been shipped.

As of Sunday, 82.6 percent of the doses shipped to the state had been administered.
