State Health Reports List 14 COVID-19 Deaths in Northeast Health District On Tuesday, Two In Oconee County And Four In Clarke County

***COVID-19 Cases Continue To Decline***

Both Oconee County and Clarke County reported two confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in the Tuesday Department of Public Health Daily Status Report.

The Northeast Health District as a whole reported 12 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and 362 cases with the release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report.

The Department of Community Health also reported two deaths at area long-term care facilities in the Northeast Health District. Both were in Clarke County.

The seven-day rolling average of added confirmed deaths dropped just slightly to 10.4 deaths per day from 10.6 deaths per day on Monday. On Tuesday of last week, the District added 13 confirmed deaths with the release of the Daily Status Report.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases continued its decline, having fallen the last four days. The average on Tuesday was 316.7 added cases per day, down from 346.6 on Monday.

The two Oconee County confirmed deaths were of a 77-year-old male without a chronic condition and of a 90-plus-year-old male also without a chronic condition.

The Clarke County deaths were of a 28-year-old female without a known chronic condition and a 78-year-old male without a chronic condition.

Oconee County now has 48 deaths from the coronoavirus while Clarke County now has 92. The rate of death per 100,000 population is 115.0 in Oconee County and 70.9 in Clarke County.

Barrow County reported the deaths of a 66-year-old female with a chronic condition and a 72-year-old male with a chronic condition. Barrow County now has 96 deaths from COVID-19.

Jackson County had three deaths listed in the Tuesday Daily Status Report: of a 76-year-old female without a chronic condition, an 83-year-old female with a chronic condition, and a 90-plus-year-old male without a chronic condition. Jackson County’s death toll from the disease is 99.

Walton County also had three deaths recorded in the Tuesday Daily Status Report: of a 76-year-old male, an 87-year-old female, and an 89-year-old male. None of these had a chronic condition.

Walton County now list 156 deaths from COVID-19, by far the most deaths of any of the 10 counties in the Northeast Health District.

The Department of Community Health deaths listed in its Tuesday Long-Term Care Facility Report were at PruittHealth–Athens Heritage in Clarke County. The Department of Community Health does not list characteristics of the deceased.

The Department of Public Health distributes the Long-Term Care Facility Report, but it does not treat deaths listed in that Report as confirmed COVID-19 deaths.

The Daily Status Report also listed a “probable death” from COVID-19 in Walton County, the 10th in the county. The characteristics of “probable deaths” are not included in the Report.

Cases, Hospital Report

The 362 added cases of COVID-19 in the Tuesday Daily Status Report resulted in the seven-day rolling average of added cases of 316.7. That average had been 411.4 on Friday.

Oconee County added 25 cases on Tuesday, and Clarke County added 57. The seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped to 18.3 on Tuesday from 19.4 in Oconee County and to 68.1 from 76.3 in Clarke County.

The Department of Community Health listed only one new case of COVID-19 among residents of the 40 long-term care facilities in the Northeast Health District covered by its report. This was at The Oaks–Athens Skilled Nursing in Clarke County.

The Long-Term Care Facility Report also included one new case of COVID-19 among staff at area facilities. This was at Comer Health and Rehabilitation nursing home in Madison County.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (194) decreased by 11 from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (75) increased by one from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (47) was unchanged from the day before.

State Data

The Daily Status Report listed 162 added confirmed COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 112.7 from 109.9 on Monday.

One hundred of the added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths based on date of occurrence increased on Tuesday from Monday.

The Department of Public Health purged three deaths from the archive of deaths attributed to COVID-19, one as far back as Aug. 31.

The Daily Status Report also listed 49 “probable deaths” from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable deaths” increased to 27.4 from 25.7 on Monday.

The rolling average of 27.4 is the highest it has been since the state first began reporting data on “probable deaths” on Nov. 3

The state added 5,151 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped to 5,699.3 from 6,196.4 on Monday.

The Department of Community Health reported that COVID-19 was present at 717 long-term care facilities in the state, up from 715 on Monday.

Across the state, the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients (4,021) decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,663) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,470) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported administration of an additional 29,568 vaccinations on Tuesday, down from 30,883 on Monday.

The total number of vaccinations in the state is now 984,354. It isn’t possible to know how many of those are first and second doses. The state has a population of 10,833,472.

The state received an additional shipment of 86,300 doses of the vaccines on Tuesday, for a total of 1,526,500 doses. The state has administered 64.5 percent of the shipped vaccines.

Data on vaccinations are not being released at the county level.

Charts

The charts below show the seven-day rolling average of the addition of COVID-19 molecular and antigen cases combined for the Northeast Health District and for the state of Georgia since Nov. 3, when the state first began reporting antigen test results.

The data in the charts come from the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report and have been updated for the 2:50 p.m. Report on Tuesday.
