State Reports 277 New COVID-19 Cases In Northeast Health District, Increase In COVID Patients At Area Hospitals

***Cases, Deaths Increase At Area Long-Term Care Homes***

The Department of Public Health reported on Tuesday that the 10 counties in the Northeast Health District added 171 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 based on molecular tests and an additional 106 cases based on rapid antigen tests.

The seven-day rolling average for cases based on both tests increased.

For the third day in a row, the Daily Status Report listed no new confirmed COVID-19 deaths from the disease. The seven-day rolling average of added confirmed deaths in the Daily Status report dropped from 1.3 on Monday to 1.1 on Tuesday.

The Department of Community Health, however, in its Tuesday Long-Term Care Facility Report, listed three COVID-19 deaths at a Walton County personal care home. The Department of Community Health also had listed a death at a nursing home in Oconee County in its Monday Report.

The Daily Status Report on Tuesday did list three probable COVID-19 deaths, two in Elbert County and one in Greene County.

Every county in the Northeast Health District added at least one molecular-test-confirmed COVID-19 case on Tuesday, with Oconee County adding 12 cases and Clarke County adding 37.

In each county, the seven-day rolling average of added cases increased, with Oconee County now averaging 9.1 molecular-based cases per day and Clarke County averaging 31.0.

Across the District, the seven-day rolling average of added molecular cases increased to 141.7 on Tuesday from 137.7 on Monday.

Every county in the 10-county Northeast Health District also added cases based on the rapid antigen test, with Oconee County adding six cases and Clarke County adding 16.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases based on the antigen test increased on Tuesday to 37.9 from 28.1 on Monday.

Community Health, Hospital Reports

The Department of Community Health listed 26 new cases of COVID-19 among residents of the 38 long-term care units in the Northeast Health District covered by its report and 14 new cases among staff of those homes.

Sixteen of those resident cases were at Pruitthealth–Athens Heritage nursing home in Clarke County, and four more were at The Oaks Athens Skilled Nursing, also in Clarke County.

The remaining six cases were at The Retreat at Loganville in Walton County, which also had reported the three deaths from the disease.

The Retreat at Loganville also reported six of the 14 staff cases, and Pruitthealth Athens Heritage reported seven. The final staff case was at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Jackson County.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (104) increased by five from the day before, that the number of ICU beds in use (64) decreased by two from the day before, and that the number of adult ventilators in use (25) was unchanged from the day before.

State Data

Across the state, the Daily Status Report listed 2,892 new cases of COVID-19 based on molecular tests, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases based on this test increased to 2,365.0 on Tuesday from 2,302.1 on Monday.

In addition, the state added 2,131 new cases based on antigen tests, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases based on this test increased to 860.3 on Tuesday from 753.6 on Monday.

The Department of Public Health Reported 23 new deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 23.0 on Tuesday from 21.4 on Monday.

Twenty of those deaths were in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths based on date of occurrence increased on Tuesday from Monday.

The Department of Public Health also eliminated three deaths from its archive of deaths attributed to COVID-19, including one as far back as July 21.

The Daily Status Report listed 43 new probable deaths from the disease, and the seven-day rolling average of added probable deaths increased to 20.6 on Tuesday from 14.7 on Monday.

Across the state, the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 patients (2,267) increased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,475) increased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (858) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Community Health reported COVID-19 cases among residents and/or staff at 665 long-term care facilities around the state, up from 664 on Monday.

Chart 3 shows data for Oconee and Clarke counties in the main chart. The inserted chart is for Region E of GEMA, which includes the 10 counties of the Northeast Health District plus Hart and Franklin counties, and is based on data from GHA.
