Addition Of Seven Confirmed COVID-19 Deaths Pushed Up Rolling Average Of Added Deaths In Northeast Health District

***Rolling Average Of Added Cases Continues To Decline***

The seven-day rolling average of added COVID-19 deaths rose again in the Northeast Health District on Thursday as the Department of Public Health listed seven deaths in its Daily Status Report.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases continued to decline.

The deaths were of a 69-year-old female and a 90-plus-year-old male in Elbert County, an 87-year-old male in Greene County, an 81-year-old female in Jackson County, a 90-plus-year-old female in Morgan County, and a 72-year-old male and an 88-year-old male in Walton County.

Only the 69-year-old in Elbert County and the 90-plus-year-old in Morgan County had a chronic condition.

The District now has 724 confirmed deaths from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 7.3 from 6.7 on Wednesday. The average had been 7.4 on Tuesday.

The District did not add any “probable” deaths from the disease in the Thursday Daily Status Report.

Cases, Hospital Report, Vaccinations

The Northeast Health District added 156 new cases of COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases fell to 155.6 from 164.3 on Wednesday.

Oconee County added 11 cases, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases fell from 11.4 on Wednesday to 11.0 on Thursday. Clarke County added 34 cases, and the seven-day rolling average was 35.7 on Wednesday and 35.6 on Thursday.

Principal Kevin Yancey of Oconee County High School sent an email on Thursday to parents of students in his school informing them of “an individual” in the school who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Yancey sent out a similar message on Tuesday.

The Department of Community Health’s Thursday Long-Term Care Facility Report had not been released late on Thursday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Thursday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (119) decreased by seven from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (71) decreased by two from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (31) decreased by two from the day before.

The Northeast Health District added 1,801 vaccinations on Thursday, up from 1,762 on Wednesday; 940 of the added doses were first doses, and 861 of those were second doses.

The number of administered second doses represents 2.9 percent of the District's 530,630 residents.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 112 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 100.0 from 94.9 on Wednesday.

Forty-one of those added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by day of occurrence was unchanged from Wednesday.

The Department of Public Health eliminated eight deaths it has previously listed in the Daily Status Report as having been due to COVID-19.

The Department of Public Health also listed 26 “probable” deaths from COVID-19, and the seven-day rolling average increased to 29.1 from 28.1 on Wednesday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Thursday that the number of COVID-19 patients (2,593) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,604) decreased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,291) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported administration of 65,565 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations on Thursday, up from 49,154 on Wednesday. The number of first doses was 25,946, and the number of second doses was 39,619.

The total number of vaccinations in the state is now 1,606,622. Of the state’s 10.8 million residents, 4.6 percent have now received the second dose of the vaccine

The Department of Public Health reported no new allocations of the vaccine to the state and no additional shipments of the vaccine.

As of Thursday, 82.1 percent of the doses shipped to the state had been administered.
