Northeast Health District Adds 116 New COVID-19 Cases, Two Deaths From Disease; Rolling Averages Of Cases, Deaths Decline

***District Lagging State As Whole In Vaccinations***

With the addition of 116 new COVID-19 cases and two death from the disease, the seven-day rolling averages of added cases and added confirmed deaths decreased on Saturday in the Northeast Health District.

The Department of Public Health reported confirmed deaths of a 43-year-old female in Clarke County without a chronic condition and of an 88-year-old male in Walton County, also without a chronic condition.

The deaths bring to 117 the number in Clarke County, to 211 in Walton County, and to 806 in the Northeast Health District.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths fell to 3.4 on Saturday from 3.6 on Friday. The District had added three deaths on last Saturday.

The Department of Public Health, in Saturday’s Daily Status Report, added one “probable” death from COVID-19–in Walton County. The county now has 17 “probable” deaths and the District has 74. No details of those deaths are released.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases in the Northeast Health District fell to 162.4 on Saturday from 176.0 on Friday. That average has now fallen three days in a row.

Oconee County added 11 cases, and Clarke County added only five. The seven-day rolling average of added cases in Oconee County fell to 11.7 on Saturday from 12.3 on Friday, and the rolling average in Clarke County fell to 27.1 from 29.7.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Saturday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (62) increased by 1 from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (61) decreased by four from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (35) increased by one from the day before.

The Northeast Health District added 1,035 vaccinations on Saturday, down from 2,627 vaccinations on Friday.

The total number of second doses (30,325) represents 5.7 percent of the District’s 530,630 residents.

The 5.7 percent figure compares with a figure of 8.5 percent for the state’s 10.8 million population. The gap between the District and state is increasing.

State Data

Across the state, the Department of Public Health added 2,562 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases decreased to 2,691.1 from 2,834.7 on Friday.

The Daily Status Report added 73 confirmed COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths increased to 78.3 from 76.6 on Friday.

Twenty-seven of the added deaths occurred in the last 14 days, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths dated by occurrence was down slightly on Saturday from Friday.

The Department of Public Health eliminated two death it has previously listed as confirmed deaths from COVID-19. One of those was on May 12 of last year!

The Department of Public Health added 19 “probable” deaths from COVID-19 in Saturday’s Daily Status Report, and the seven-day rolling average of added “probable” deaths increased to 11.6 from 11.0 the day before.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Saturday that the number of COVID-19 patients (1,640) at the state’s hospitals decreased from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (2,472) decreased from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (1,156) decreased from the day before.

The Department of Public Health reported administration of 38,981 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines on Saturday, down from 69,351 on Friday.

The Department of Public Health did not report any new allocations of COVID-19 vaccinations on Saturday or new shipments of the allocated doses.

As of Saturday, 80.2 percent of the doses shipped to the state had been administered.
