Northeast Health District Adds Nine Confirmed COVID-19 Deaths, Three In Clarke County

***Rolling Average of Added Cases Declines***

The Northeast Health District added nine confirmed COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, pushing the seven-day rolling average of added confirmed deaths to 3.3 per day from 2.3 the day before.

Three of those confirmed deaths were in Clarke County, which had added two confirmed deaths from the disease on Wednesday.

The District added 94 new cases of COVID-19 in the Thursday Department of Public Health Daily Status Report, and the seven rolling average of added cases decreased from Wednesday.

The three Clarke County deaths were of a 60-year-old male, a 63-year-old male, and an 81-year-old male, none of whom had a chronic condition.

The three confirmed deaths bring to 125 the number in the county attributed to COVID-19 and increased the number of deaths per 100,000 population to 96.3, up from 92.5 on Tuesday.

Even with the increase, however, Clarke County’s death rate is the lowest of the 10 counties in the Northeast Health District.

Barrow County also added three deaths in Thursday’s Daily Status Report, of a 40-year-old male with a chronic condition, an 81-year-old male without a chronic condition, and an 85-year-old male with a chronic condition.

The other deaths were of a 47-year-old female in Morgan County with a chronic condition, an 81-year-old male in Walton County with a chronic condition, and a 90-plus-year-old male without a chronic condition.

The nine confirmed deaths bring to 855 the number in the Northeast Health District. The District had added eight confirmed deaths on Wednesday.

North Oconee High School Principal Philip Brown sent an email at 7:02 p.m. on Thursday to parents of students at the school informing them that “an individual” at the school had tested positive for COVID-19.

This is the third “individual” who has tested positive at North Oconee High School since last Friday and at least the seventh individual across the system who has tested positive in that time period, according to emails parents have forwarded to me.
