Six Candidates File To Run For Three Watkinsville Council Seats

One Without Opposition

Six candidates filed last week to run for three seats on the Watkinsville City Council in the Nov. 8 election.

Marcia Campbell filed to run for Post 3.

Rosevelyn Garrison, Janice Richardson and Christine Tucker filed for Post 4.

Dan Matthews and Mark Melvin filed for Post 5.

Campbell currently holds Post 3, while incumbent council members Mike Huff, Post 4, and Mike Link, Post 5, did not file for re-election.

Filing Details

Campbell, 45, of 39 South Main Street, lists her occupation as educator.

Garrison, 80, of 30 Harden Hill Road, is a semi-retired real estate broker.

Richardson, 67, of 77 Jackson Street, is retired.

Tucker, 42, of 51 South Barnett Shoals Road, is a realtor.

Matthews, 53, of 1081 Katie Lane, is an office manager.

Melvin, no date of birth listed, lives at 1100 Christian Terrace and is an assistant fire chief in Athens-Clarke County.

Terms

Council terms are for two years and are staggered.

Mayor Charles Ivie, Post 1 Council Member Brian Brodrick, and Post 2 Council Member Connie Massey were elected a year ago.

The Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration manages the Council elections for the City of Watkinsville.

Voting will be at the regular voting locations of City Hall and the Government Annex.

We agree on nothing; I do admire his tenacity.
The Democrats' Party in this county is organized, enthusiastic and loyal.
Why those folks have not challenged Oconee's GOP crew is a mystery,
as the Oconee County Republican Party is in complete disarray.
