The District added one death, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths remained unchanged at 1.6 deaths per day. The rolling average of added deaths increased at the state level.

New Data

The Department of Public Health began reporting two new tallies on Tuesday at the state and county levels.

In addition to the 17,586 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Northeast Health District “defined as an individual with a positive molecular test,” the Daily Status Report for the first time listed an additional number, 2,351 Antigen Positive Cases, which “represents individuals with a positive antigen test.”

A molecular (PCR) test looks for the virus’s genetic material. An antigen test is a rapid test that looks for specific proteins on the surface of the virus.

Oconee County now has 266 Antigen Positive Cases in addition to the previously counted 886 confirmed cases via a molecular test.

Clarke County now has 1,049 Antigen Positive Cases in addition to 5,901 confirmed cases via a molecular test.

In addition, the Daily Status Report on Tuesday began listed both “Confirmed Deaths” as in the past and “Probable Deaths.”

Confirmed deaths include “confirmed COVID-19 cases that were either reported to DPH as deceased by healthcare providers or medical examiners/coroners, identified by death certificates with COVID-19 indicated as the cause of death, or there is evidence that COVID-19 contributed to the individual’s death.”

Probable Deaths include “individuals who are antigen positive or individuals with compatible illness and known close contact to a case that were either reported to DPH as deceased by healthcare providers or medical examiners/coroners, identified by death certificates with COVID-19 indicated as the cause of death, or there is evidence that COVID contributed to the individual’s death OR individuals with a death certificate that has COVID-19 indicated as the cause of death and there is no laboratory evidence for SARS-CoV-2.”

The District has 20 Probably Deaths in addition to the 311 Confirmed Deaths.

Neither Oconee nor Clarke counties has any Probable Deaths listed. Oconee now has 31 Confirmed Deaths and Clarke has 50.
