Rolling Average Of Added COVID-19 Cases Increases In Northeast Health District With Release Of Daily Status Report

***Oconee Contributes Nearly One In Five Of Cases***

Driven by Oconee County’s numbers, the seven-day rolling average of added COVID-19 cases in the Northeast Health District increased on Monday with the release of the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report.

The District added 42 cases confirmed by molecular tests and 17 based on rapid antigen tests, and the seven-day rolling average of total added cases increased to 91.6 from 88.4 on Sunday.

The District added one death–of a 77-year-old male in Madison County without a known chronic condition–and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths fell to 2.3 from 2.4 on Sunday. Monday’s are light reporting days, and the District added two deaths a week ago.

Madison County now has 43 deaths from COVID-19, and the District has 838.

Oconee County added eight of the 42 cases confirmed by molecular tests and no cases based on the antigen tests, and the seven-day rolling average of total added cases in Oconee County increased to 13.0 from 12.0 on Sunday.

Clarke County added six cases, also all based on molecular tests, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped to 11.7 from 12.0 on Sunday.

Clarke has more than three times the population of Oconee County.

Barrow and Jackson, both also with much larger populations than Oconee, were the only counties in the 10-county District adding more confirmed cases than Oconee County. Both added nine cases based on the molecular tests.

The Department of Community Health, in its Monday Long-Term Care Facility Report, listed four new cases of COVID-19 among residents of the 40 facilities in the Northeast Health District covered by the Report.

All four of those cases were at PruittHealth–Athens Heritage in Clarke County.

Schools, Hospitals, Vaccines

Oconee County Schools continued to report new positive tests at the schools on Monday.

Kevin Yancey, principal at Oconee County High School, informed parents of students at that school in an email at 6:50 p.m. on Monday that “an individual” in the school had tested positive.

Parents have forwarded me email messages about a positive test at Malcom Bridge Middle School, North Oconee High School, and now Oconee County High School since Superintendent Jason Branch released his Weekly Status Report on COVID-19 on Friday.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Monday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (45) decreased by 10 from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (53) decreased by six from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (31) decreased by eight from the day before.

The Department of Public Health did not update its web dashboard to report administration of new vaccines on Monday.

In addition, the Department of Public Health reported the allocation to the state of an additional 512,900 new doses of the vaccine and shipment of 269,720 additional doses of the vaccine.

As of Monday, 91.2 percent of the allocated doses had been shipped, and 81.0 percent of the doses shipped to the state had been administered.
