Georgia Democratic State Rep. Spencer Frye told Oconee County Democrats last year that he expects the legislative session that starts in Atlanta on Monday will include renewed discussion of school vouchers, which he opposes.
Republicans were unable to get enough votes to pass a voucher program in the last session, Frye noted.

The Oconee County Board of Education, at its meeting in December, decided to ask the Georgia Department of Education to allow a one-year extension of its five-year local facilities plan that is set to expire on June 30 of this year.
The Board told the Department of Education in the resolution it approved at that Dec. 4 meeting that it will continue to update the current facilities plan.
Oconee County commissioners on Tuesday night consented to the deannexation of 175.8 acres between Jefferson Road and the Apalachee River from the Town of North High Shoals.
The Board took the action in response to a petition to the Mayor and Council of the Town of North High Shoals from Tony Townley, General Partner of Townley Family Partnership LLLP, who owns the 175.8 acres and an adjoining 407.3 acres outside the Town limits.
Only three people stepped forward last month when the Walton County Water and Sewer Authority invited residents of Oconee and Walton counties to offer comments on an Environmental Information Document prepared for the planned water treatment plant on the Hard Labor Creek Regional Reservoir.
Oconee County is partner with Walton County on the reservoir and the planned treatment plant, which, at some point in the future, is expected to be expanded to treat water pumped from the Apalachee River.
