***No New Oconee County Cases Reported***

With the release of the Georgia Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Monday, the seven-day rolling average of added COVID-19 cases in the Northeast Health District increased, as did the rolling average of added confirmed deaths from the disease.

The District added only 40 cases on Monday, usually a light reporting day, and the District had added 36 cases last Monday.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases in the 10-county District increased to 49.0 from 48.4 on Sunday.

The District added two confirmed deaths from COVID-19. These were a 78-year-old male in Jackson County with a chronic condition and an 82-year-old male in Madison County, also with a chronic condition.

The District now has recorded 894 deaths from the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

The seven-day rolling average of added confirmed deaths increased to 2.0 deaths per day on Monday from 1.7 on Sunday. The District had not added any deaths last Monday.

The Department of Community Health, in Monday’s Long-Term Care Facility Report, listed one new staff COVID-19 case at Park Place Nursing Facility in Walton County.

The Report did not include any new cases among residents of the 44 facilities in the Northeast Health District covered by the report and no new deaths from the disease.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Monday that the number of COVID-19 patients at area hospitals (34) decreased by three from the day before, the number of ICU beds in use (58) increased by seven from the day before, and the number of adult ventilators in use (30) was unchanged from the day before.

The Department of Public Health released data on Monday showing that 14.5 percent of the population of the Northeast Health District is now fully vaccinated, up from 14.4 percent on Sunday.

Oconee County has the highest percent of its population vaccinated in the 10-county District with 21.9 percent. Clarke County is at 15.9 percent.

I calculated these percentages based on the population figures given by the Department of Public Health in the Daily Status Report. The dashboard uses some other, unspecified population estimates.

In unrelated news, Brian Brodrick qualified for mayor in the Special Election in Watkinsville on June 15, and Chuck Garrett qualified for Post 1. Brodrick is current Acting Mayor and vacated Post 1 to run for that position.
