Oconee County Republican voters picked Walton County resident Marc McMain (61.4 percent) over Oconee County resident Doug McKillip (38.6 percent) in the runoff for the party nomination for Senate District 46.
County Republicans preferred Derek Dooley (54.5 percent) over Mike Collins (45.5 percent) in the race for the party nomination for the U.S. Senate.
In the Gubernatorial race, Rick Jackson received 51.5 percent of the vote in the county, and Burt Jones received 48.5 percent.
Oconee County Republicans gave a slight nod to John F. Kennedy (50.7 percent) over Greg Dolezal (49.3 percent) in the race for Lieutenant Governor, and strongly preferred Tim Flemming (67.3 percent) over Vernon Jones (32.7 percent).
Fred “Bubba” Longgrear received 53.0 percent of the Republican vote in the county, to 47.0 percent for incumbent Richard Woods, and Josh Tolbert was favored by 60.3 percent of the Republican vote in the county for Public Service Commissioner District 5, to 39.7 percent for Bobby Mehan.
On the Democratic side, Oconee County voters picked Josh McLaurin (73.9 percent) over Nabilah Parkes (26.1 percent), and Dana Barrett (52.8 percent) over Penny Brown Reynolds (47.2 percent).
In the race for the Democratic Party nomination for Commissioner of Insurance, Oconee County voters favored DeAndre Mathis (59.4 percent) over Keisha Sean Waites (40.6 percent). In the race for Commissioner Labor, Oconee County Democrats picked Nikki Porcher (51.9 percent) over Michelle Michi Sanchez (48.1 percent)
Only 7,970 voters cast a ballot in the runoff, with 6,959 of those in the Republican Primary (87.3 percent) and 1,011 in the Democratic Primary (12.7 percent).
Turnout overall was 24.8 percent, based on 32,161 Active registered voters in the county.
Unofficial results from all five counties that make up Senate 46 District show McMain with 64.5 percent of the vote to 35.5 percent for McKillip.
Other Details
Of the 7,970 votes cast in the June 16 runoff, 3,576 (44.9 percent) were cast at the county’s four precincts on Election Day, 4,165 were cast Advance In Person (52.3 percent), and 229 (2.9 percent) were Absentee By Mail.

In the May 19 Party Primary and Nonpartisan Election, a total of 12,445 ballots had been cast, with 5,557 (44.7 percent) cast on Election Day, 6,640 (53.4 percent) cast Advance In Person, 244 (2.0 percent) cast Absentee By Mail, and four (0.0 percent) cast provisionally but ultimately accepted.
Turnout as a percent of Active registered voters in May was 38.7 percent.
In the May election, 9,007 Republican ballots were cast (72.4 percent), 3,261 Democratic ballots were cast (26.2 percent), and 177 solely Nonpartisan ballots were cast (1.4 percent).
Drop off in voting in the runoff was smaller for Republicans that for Democrats, with 2,048 fewer voters using the Republican ballot in June than in May, and 2,250 fewer voters using the Democratic ballot in June than in May.
Voters who had not voted in May could vote in June, and voters who used the Nonpartisan ballot in May could vote with either party ballot in the June runoff.
In May, Oconee County Republicans slightly favored McMain (3,189, or 38.6 percent) over McKillip (3,158, or 38.2 percent). Michael Broun received 1,918 votes (23.2 percent).
In the June runoff in Oconee County, McMain received 4,096 votes (61.4 percent) to McKillip’s 2,579 (38.6 percent).
Based on the unofficial results, McMain received 63.0 percent of the vote in Barrow County, 53.1 percent in Clarke County, 54.1 percent in Gwinnett County, 61.4 percent in Oconee County, and 74.0 percent in Walton County.
Oconee is the only one of the five counties that falls wholly in the 46th Senate District, currently represented by Bill Cowsert. Cowsert ran unsuccessfully for Attorney General in the May primary.
McMain will meet up with Democrat Ray Smith, from Oconee County, in the November 3 General Election.
